Hire an actuary calibrated to your line of business and your qualification bar

Brief us on an actuarial role

In actuarial hiring, the title tells you almost nothing

Actuary is one word for a dozen different hires. A pricing actuary in general insurance, a reserving actuary in life, and a capital actuary under a solvency regime do genuinely different jobs, and the qualification ladder adds another axis on top: a part-qualified student, a nearly-qualified associate and a Fellow come with different capabilities, different expectations and different markets. A brief that says "we need an actuary" and a shortlist screened on that word will produce candidates who are technically actuaries and wrong for the seat, and the mismatch only becomes clear once the interview gets specific.

The market is also thin and well-networked, which cuts both ways. The right people are often not looking, and they are quick to read whether a recruiter understands the distinction between their line and the one next door. A search that opens with the wrong framing loses credibility with exactly the candidates worth reaching.

We work in insurance, so we calibrate the search on line of business and qualification before it starts. Before a profile reaches you, someone who knows the difference between a life reserving seat and a general pricing seat has formed a view on whether this person fits yours.

What we screen for in an actuarial hire

Line of business, precisely. We match the specific line and discipline the seat needs, because life, general and health, and pricing, reserving and capital, are not interchangeable.

Qualification status, honestly. We place the real stage, from part-qualified to Fellow, against the bar you actually need, rather than stretching a title to fit a budget.

Judgment beyond the model. The strongest actuaries explain a number to a board and defend an assumption under challenge. We assess for that, not only technical output.

Fit to an insurer or an insurtech. A legacy insurer and a growth-stage insurtech ask different things of the same role. We calibrate the search to the environment, which also decides what prices the move.

What an actuarial hire pays in India

Actuarial compensation moves with qualification status, line of business and whether the seat carries an appointed or signing responsibility, so there is no single band to quote. We do not publish an actuarial benchmark; instead we calibrate each offer against live offers in the market at the point of the search and give you that read before you go out, so the number is current rather than anchored to last year.

The wider insurance hiring picture, across technology, data, distribution and operations, sits on insurance recruitment and who we serve in insurance.

Hiring an actuary: common questions

What actuarial roles do you recruit for in India?

Pricing, reserving and valuation actuaries, appointed actuary and actuarial leadership, product actuaries, and the underwriting and risk roles that sit alongside them, across life, general and health insurers and insurtech firms. We work the full qualification range, from part-qualified students to Fellows.

Why is actuarial hiring a specialist search?

Because qualification status and line of business are not interchangeable, and both change who is right for a seat. A pricing actuary in general insurance and a reserving actuary in life solve different problems, and a part-qualified student, a nearly-qualified associate and a Fellow are different hires with different expectations. A generalist recruiter screening on the word actuary misses all of that.

Do you place both actuarial and underwriting leaders?

Yes. Actuarial, pricing, underwriting and insurance risk leadership sit close together and we recruit across them, because an insurer or insurtech usually needs the combination rather than one in isolation. We also place the wider insurance technology, data and operations roles on our insurance recruitment page.

What does an actuarial hire pay in India?

Actuarial compensation moves with qualification status, line of business and whether the seat carries an appointed or signing responsibility, so there is no single band. We do not publish an actuarial benchmark; instead we calibrate each offer against live offers in the market at the point of the search, and share that read with you before you go out.

What is your fee model for actuarial recruitment?

Success-fee, payable when a candidate joins. No retainer, and no fee for shortlist or assessment work that does not result in a placement. Appointed actuary and other senior confidential mandates can run as retained executive search. Terms are agreed before a mandate starts.
