GIFT City · IFSC Hiring

IFSC and financial services recruitment agency in GIFT City

GIFT City is the one financial services market in India where every employer answers to a single regulator, the IFSCA, and where almost every senior hire has to be brought in from another city. That combination is what makes it a specialist search problem rather than a local one. We run mandates for the bank IBUs, fund management entities, insurers, fintechs and leasing firms setting up or scaling there, sourced nationally and built around relocation from the first conversation.

What we hire for in GIFT City

The roles an IFSC entity has to fill to operate under the IFSCA, not the roles a generic banking desk would send. For bank IBUs: treasury, trade finance, structured products and the operations behind them. For fund management entities: fund accounting and operations, investor relations, compliance and the investment roles as the fund scales. For insurers and reinsurers: underwriting, claims and actuarial-adjacent analytics. Across all of them: IFSCA-facing compliance and regulatory reporting, risk, and the technology, data and information security roles a regulated entity runs from day one. We do not run volume or branch hiring, and we say so on the first call.

GIFT City's financial services landscape

GIFT IFSC is India's international financial services centre, on the Sabarmati between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, regulated since April 2020 by the International Financial Services Centres Authority, which stands in for the RBI, SEBI, IRDAI and PFRDA inside the zone. By the government's own count in November 2025 it held more than 1,000 registered entities, 38 banks with banking assets past USD 100 billion, and close to 200 fund management entities with commitments above USD 26 billion. Banking assets had grown roughly sevenfold in five years, and by early 2026 had passed USD 106 billion.

The employer mix is what makes it distinct. Indian and foreign banks run IFSC banking units there for offshore lending, trade finance, treasury and structured products. Fund management is the fastest-growing segment, with more than 300 alternative investment funds registered. Around 35 insurers, reinsurers and intermediaries operate from the zone, and reinsurers from outside the traditional markets have begun opening branches. Aircraft and ship leasing, the bullion exchange, exchanges and clearing houses, and a techfin and ancillary services layer round it out. Groups increasingly co-locate several entities in one office: a bank IBU, an asset manager, a life and reinsurance arm and a securities unit under one roof, each hiring its own compliance, operations and technology.

On talent, the honest picture is this. Employment in IFSC units crossed 20,000 professionals by late 2025 against a stated ambition of 100,000 by 2030, so the workforce is small relative to Mumbai and growing fast. Senior banking, fund and compliance profiles are still sourced from Mumbai first, then Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Delhi NCR. Every search for a first-time IFSC hire is therefore a relocation search, and the close is decided by housing, schooling and the spouse's career as much as by the offer. Employers that state the relocation package and the hybrid pattern in the brief close faster than those that discover the question at offer stage.

Who is hiring in GIFT City

The entity types operating under the IFSCA and the mandates that come with each.

Entity type

Bank IBUs

Indian and foreign banks' IFSC banking units. Mandates cluster on treasury, trade finance, structured products, operations, and the compliance and technology functions behind an offshore book.

Entity type

Fund management entities

AIF managers, family offices and the offshore arms of Indian asset managers. Fund accounting and operations first, then investor relations, compliance and investment roles as commitments grow.

Entity type

Insurers and reinsurers

IFSC insurance offices and reinsurance branches. Underwriting, claims, actuarial-adjacent analytics and regulatory reporting, often for a small founding team that has to be senior from day one.

Entity type

Fintech, leasing and exchanges

Techfin and ancillary service providers, aircraft and ship lessors, exchanges and clearing houses. Product, engineering, data, risk and the IFSCA-facing compliance every one of them needs.

How a GIFT City search runs differently

Three things change against a Mumbai or Bengaluru mandate. The pool is national, so the map is built across cities before the first approach. The candidate needs a reason to move that survives a counteroffer, so the pitch is written around the seat's mandate and the zone's trajectory rather than a premium alone. And the close runs through the family, so the relocation terms, the housing reality in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad and the hybrid pattern are on the table in the first conversation, not the last. Everything else is the same discipline as our other markets: a calibrated shortlist of three to four, each with the Domain Screen, and the same success-fee terms.

Hiring in GIFT City: common questions

What do you recruit for in GIFT City?

The functions an IFSC entity has to staff to operate under IFSCA: treasury, trade finance and structured products for bank IBUs; fund accounting, operations, investor relations and investment roles for fund management entities; underwriting and claims for insurers and reinsurers; IFSCA-facing compliance and risk; and the technology, data and security roles every one of them runs. We do not run volume or branch hiring.

Where does GIFT City talent actually come from?

Mostly from outside Gandhinagar. Senior banking, fund and compliance profiles are still sourced from Mumbai first, then Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Delhi NCR, and a search has to be built around relocation or a hybrid pattern from day one. Local supply is growing with each new office, but for a first-time IFSC hire the pool is national, not local.

Is GIFT City experience a must-have?

Rarely, and insisting on it shrinks an already small pool. What transfers is regulated financial services experience plus the ability to learn the IFSCA framework quickly. The exception is compliance and regulatory reporting roles, where prior IFSC exposure shortens the ramp materially and is worth paying for.

How is a GIFT City mandate priced and how long does it take?

Success-fee, payable when the candidate joins, with no fee for shortlist or assessment work that does not result in a placement. Allow four to six weeks from brief to offer for a specialist role, and longer where relocation is involved, because the close depends on the candidate's family as much as the candidate. Terms are on the hire hub.

Do you also cover Ahmedabad?

Yes. GIFT City sits between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, and Ahmedabad is where much of its workforce lives and where the domestic banking, NBFC and fintech employers in Gujarat are headquartered. We treat the two as one market for search purposes.
