The three differentials that move an offer

Mumbai over Bengaluru and Delhi NCR, for risk and compliance. Mumbai prices roughly 15 to 25 percent above Bengaluru and Delhi NCR for equivalent seats, though Bengaluru is closing the gap on GCC and fintech demand. Mumbai and Delhi NCR hold the deepest senior compliance markets and price above other cities, since regulated-entity head offices concentrate the named-officer roles.

GCC over IT services, for technology. Across published 2026 India data, banking and financial services GCCs pay 30 to 60 percent above comparable IT services positions for the same title, and the gap widens with seniority. Applied AI and machine learning work carries a further 40 to 60 percent premium over equivalent software roles. In Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune the competition is GCC pay regardless of institution type; domestic benchmarks still hold in markets with thinner GCC presence.

Regulated experience over the general market, for security and risk. Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai lead, and regulated-environment BFSI experience adds a premium over the general cybersecurity market in every city. Roles carrying formal regulatory designation price above equivalent unnamed seats, and fintechs pay bank-plus for leaders who stay regulator-credible at fintech speed.

The wider technology market, by role, city and employer type, is in the 2026 compensation benchmarks guide, including why city medians mislead.

Method, in one paragraph

Every range is our read of the current market for movers, compiled from public India financial services and fintech compensation data (NASSCOM, LinkedIn Salary Insights, Glassdoor, AmbitionBox, PayScale, Levels.fyi and published 2026 market guides) and cross-checked against the offer and joining data we see running specialist search across the sector. Where a band disagreed with the triangulation it moved; where it did not, it stayed. Each function page shows the date it was last checked. Where we do not have enough current data to publish a defensible range, the function is marked in calibration rather than guessed. The full method is on the benchmarks hub.

Reading the table

Are these figures CTC or fixed pay?

Fixed pay, in INR lakhs per year, for people moving between organisations. Bonus, ESOP and long-term incentive are excluded because they vary too widely across institutions to compress into one range. Published CTC figures for the same roles will read higher.

How much more do Mumbai roles pay than Bengaluru or Delhi NCR?

For credit risk seats, Mumbai prices roughly 15 to 25 percent above Bengaluru and Delhi NCR at equivalent level, and Bengaluru is closing the gap on GCC and fintech demand. For technology roles the city premium is smaller than it looks: the higher-paying cities mostly hold more senior talent rather than paying more for the same seat.

How much more do banking GCCs pay than IT services firms?

Across published 2026 India data, GCC roles pay 30 to 60 percent above comparable IT services positions, and the gap widens with seniority. Applied AI and machine learning work carries a further 40 to 60 percent premium over equivalent software roles.
