Screened for regulated cyber expectations and board-level governance, not generic enterprise IT security. Success-fee, paid only on joining.
Brief us on a security roleA CISO in a bank, NBFC or insurer does not only defend the estate. They operate under named cyber expectations from the RBI, SEBI or IRDAI, answer to a board risk committee that reads the detail, carry reporting obligations when something goes wrong, and sit under audit scrutiny the rest of the year. The technical half of the job is the part most candidates can demonstrate. The regulatory and governance half is the part that decides whether the hire holds, and it is exactly the half a strong enterprise CISO from outside financial services has never had to run.
That is why the search misfires on a technical screen. Two candidates can present the same tooling, the same team size and the same certifications, and one has carried a regulatory examination and translated cyber risk into a board conversation while the other has run security for an unregulated enterprise and never faced either. The CV flattens the difference. The institution feels it in the first quarter.
We work only in financial services, so we weigh the regulatory and governance record first. Before a profile reaches you, someone who understands what your regulator expects of this seat has formed a view on whether the candidate has actually operated there.
Time under a financial regulator. We separate leaders who have carried a regulatory examination and the reporting that follows from those who have only read the circulars.
Board translation. A CISO who cannot turn cyber risk into a decision the board can take is a technical lead with a bigger title. We assess for that translation directly.
Incident conduct under scrutiny. We probe for how a candidate handled a real incident when a regulator and a board were watching, because that is where posture meets accountability.
A function the business uses, not avoids. The strongest security leaders are built into delivery, not bolted onto it. We look for evidence the business came to them early rather than worked around them.
Offers for information security roles move with institution type, the regulatory intensity of the seat, and whether it carries the named CISO designation. We publish current compensation so an offer can be built on live numbers.

A financial services CISO works under named regulatory cyber expectations from the RBI, SEBI or IRDAI, with reporting obligations, audit scrutiny and a board risk committee that reads the detail. The job is as much regulatory and governance as it is technical. A strong enterprise CISO who has never operated under a financial regulator can misjudge exactly that half of the role.
Chief information security officers, heads of information security, deputy CISOs, security architecture leads, cyber risk and resilience leaders, and application and cloud security heads, across banks, NBFCs, insurers and fintechs.
Yes, because institutions do. Information security and technology risk overlap but are not the same seat: one owns the security posture and controls, the other owns the risk framework and governance over technology. We run them as separate specialisms and publish pay for both, so a brief that conflates them gets untangled before sourcing starts.
Certifications are a floor. We assess for how a candidate has carried a regulatory examination, how they translated cyber risk into board language, how they handled a real incident under scrutiny, and whether they built a security function that the business worked with rather than around. Regulated-sector security is a leadership and governance test, not only a technical one.
Success-fee, payable when the candidate joins, for specialist search. CISO and other confidential leadership mandates are handled as retained executive search. Fees are agreed before a mandate starts and reflect seniority and search difficulty.
